Painting Process

Lisa Jasak’s paintings capture the essence of our moments. When she starts, Lisa often does not know which mood a painting will capture. She has learned to allow a scene to speak for itself. Sometimes the overall tone of the finished painting is a surprise even to the artist. A parrot’s portrait can develop into The Tale of a Goth Superbird without warning. Lisa Jasak’s dreamlike views draw you along winding paths. You become a traveler lead to an unknown future. What mysteries are on the hill’s other side? Perhaps the color of the landscape or shape of the shadows will give us some insight. Is this a dangerous road? Color is another of Lisa Jasak’s languages. It brings layers of mood to her paintings. Dark grays predict a coming storm. Fresh yellow on the horizon promises renewal and rebirth. Bold reds and sharp lines show a horse’s strength or a rabbit’s pride. Soft, smooth brushstrokes illustrate a turtle’s dream or create mist that hides a valley like the haze of sleep. You might recognize the smug expression on a prideful lizard. It is clear to a lot of us that the prairie dog is a show-off. And doesn’t it look like an explorer just shined a lantern in that pepper? If a landscape gives you déjà vu, please let her know. Each piece tells its own story, but these are the stories of everyone.
